Detroit City FC are one of the most-discussed teams in American soccer, possessing some of the most passionate fans in the country at any level.
I’ve followed the club closely since their inception in the NPSL in 2012 and after years watching from afar, finally attended my first Detroit City FC match, the season opener on May 12 vs Milwaukee Torrent at Keyworth Stadium.
On matchday, Dion Degennaro — my gracious host and photographer of the Northern Guard Supporters — took me for a tour of Detroit; stopping to see the good, and gaining perspective by driving past the bad, before heading to Keyworth for what was an incredible atmosphere.
To avoid being “that guy” on his phone in the supporters section, I wore a pair of Spectacles to share my experience. Here’s what I saw during my day in Detroit.
